Gary Larsen

Gary Larsen

The Ingraham HS class of 1971 has lost another "Legend".  Our very own Gary Stanley Larsen suddenly passed away on January 17th 2023 from cancer.  Through out his high school football career, he was one of the most feared linebackers in the State.  Whether dominating every other Metro team he played against or sporting a pair of US flag pants for Senior skip day @Blue Ridge Beach, he was larger than life. He went on to lead WSU Cougar teams in the early 70's, where he was responsible for the still infamous sack dance over Sonny Sixkiller and his inclusion to the All-Apple Cup team. He continued to be larger than life. So glad to have had him attend our 50th reunion this past September.  RIP GSL

Celebration of life event information to follow.

The first time I had heard of Gary Larsen was in First Grade at Broadview Elementary School.  He wasn't in my class, but he won a race around the playground that all First Graders ran and that is when I first had heard his name and knew from then on, who he was.  He was always bigger than life and involved in athletics.  He was my Squad Captain in a Ninth Grade Physical Education class at Thomson Junior High School and although I was tall, big footed, clumsy and usually not very good athletically, Gary was always a positive team captain.  He always gave me positive strokes of encouragement, which turned me around and I acquired much more confidence and the desire to perform well.  I can't recall the last time I'd seen him, but knew he worked for the railroad and do remember when he sacked Sonny Sixkiller in the Apple Cup in 1972, which was a famous sack after he danced a war dance over the Huskies quarterback.  He will be missed.  May he Rest In Peace.
